Smithfield looks to buy land for city office

Smithfield City is looking to construct a new city office building on a piece of land adjacent to the present city offices. The property is located at 69 N. Main, Smithfield. If the city acquires the land, City Recorder Dean Clegg said, a portion of the property would be sold for commercial use. The parking lot would be used jointly and managed by the city. Architectural Nexus is working with the city on plans for the new offices. Clegg said the project should go out to bid by the end of the summer. In addition, Smithfield City hopes to build a library in a seperate building on the same piece of property in the next three to five years.
